Save the 27 Bus

 IMG_7576.JPG

Stagecoach is proposing to withdraw the 27 bus service, which goes every morning from the Mordens to Cambridge, via Littlington, Bassingbourn, Kneesworth, Meldreth, Shepreth, Barrington and Haslingfield, returning in the evening.

It is relied on by many people to get to work or college who don’t have any alternative means of travel.

Stagecoach has reviewed the route and says that it is not currently economically viable.

Petition

We the undersigned call on Cambridgeshire County Council to extend its bus subsidy support to people affected by the withdrawal of the 27 bus, in order to ensure public transport provision to work, training and education.

Please continue with the bus service, it is an important part of the local transport system, particularly for village children.

A well as the making an impact on those Bassingbourn residents who are trying to get to/from work or college on the 27, if this proposal is agreed it will make a real impact on our more elderly neighbours that would be life changing!

This is a vital link for people living in the villages on the Bus No 27 route. It is pacticularly hurtful as this cut is based on the improvements to the No 26 which has very little to do with tne No 26 route. These improvements will probably save Stagecoach money and increase usage.. We are prepared to spend £200M on a Cambourn Guided Bus route but nothing on other vital routes.

This service needs to continue to allow Sixth Form students to get independently into Cambridge for College. It is the only option for those unable to drive (surely we shouldn’t be encouraging more cars into Cambridge anyway?) or those unable to get to a train station.

This bus service is vital to Bassingbourn residents. It is the only way for anyone without access to a car to get to Cambridge to work, school/college and for medical appointments. There is no business reason for withdrawing the 27 service in order for the 26 service to return to hourly in off-peak periods. The residents along the 26 service route have access to railway stations for journeys in off-peak periods and should accept that other villages shouldn’t forgo their only bus service to Cambridge in order to suit the needs of a few!
