Greater Cambridge City Deal cuts affordable housing

The City Deal has abandoned its commitment for 1000 new homes for local people.

Proposals to change the terms of the Greater Cambridge City Deal have caused widespread anger and concern. 1000 homes were allocated by the GCCD to be built on exception sites in South Cambridgeshire - 100% affordable homes for local people.

Lib Dem members of the Assembly were outraged to find that the GCCD intends to count all housing that has come forward as a result of speculative opportunistic applications towards this figure.

Cllr Bridget Smith said, "This is a con. South Cambs residents were told quite explicitly by the GCCD that 1000 affordable homes would be delivered for them by the GCCD and this turns out to be simply untrue.

The GCCD is already failing in the eyes of thousands of residents and this will do nothing to stop the public relations car crash which it has become.

Politicians are betraying the people I represent and it's just not good enough.”
