Save our school gritting routes

The Conservative-led County Council has announced plans to stop gritting some key roads in icy conditions.

Essential roads have been withdrawn from the gritting routes (shown in blue on the map), including main roads into villages and school routes

We call upon Cambridgeshire County Council to restore priority to gritting School Routes to ensure our children's safety is not put at risk.

Not gritting these roads is incredibly stupid. Does there have to be an accident before gritting resumes???

Money cannot be used to justify this decision? With those two 90° bends, the road between Longstanton and Swavesey is dangerous enough for car drivers in the summer, never mind for children in a school bus, on an ungritted icy road in winter conditions.

The council are abdicating their duty of care to our children. Complete lunacy, and boardering on criminal negligence.

Just grit the roads! There’s already so much mess around here, get it sorted before it starts to cost lives or we’ll have another petition to withhold council tax payments until the last minute.

Crazy. These are all commuter routes – school and adult cycle commuter routes (Ramper Road), school and standard service bus routes, car and motorcycle commuter routes.

Stopping gritting these routes is a very dangerous idea.

Hinxton village, and St Johns Street Duxford (which is where the school is), should be gritted.

The proposed cuts include busy routes between Swavesey, Over and Longstanton which carry heavy traffic each day. Failing to grit this will lead to accidents in freezing conditions and potential loss of life.

Please don’t forget that this is the County Council that paid it’s former CEO 20p a mile to cycle around the City!!

Some of these roads they are cutting gritting on are lethal. This makes me so angry!

It will cost more if the council gets sued constantly for preventable deaths!
