Meet Your Candidate

We introduce your candidates for South Cambridgeshire District Council elections on May 5th 2016. There are 19 seats up for election in total, 12 in South Cambridgeshire Constituency.

Janet Lockwood - Harston & Hauxton

Janet Lockwood

I have worked hard to ensure new housing delivers real benefits and new facilities for our whole community and I will continue to work on the important task of integrating our newest residents.

I have always fought for new local housing to be of the highest standard of energy efficiency and to respect its location and setting. Our Lib Dem campaign to protect Nine Wells Nature Reserve will benefit wildlife and residents across Cambridgeshire.

I am leading the council in challenging NHS England to improve local healthcare services with money received from developments. With huge cuts to local council budgets I am committed to defending key services, such as the subsidised buses that I helped organise.

Sebastian Kindersley - Gamlingay

Sebastian Kindersley

Sebastian is a dedicated, local, campaigning councillor who has worked hard for many years to support his constituents and their communities.

Through local campaigns - such as reducing speed limits, saving Gamlingay Library, fighting for affordable housing in the Station Road development or securing community benefits from Green End - and hard work across South Cambs - protecting the Green Belt, securing affordable homes for local people and sustainable development for the future - Sebastian has shown he is a councillor prepared to put in the time and effort needed to deliver results.

Brian Milnes - Sawston

Brian MilnesSawston is going to see considerable development over the next 5 years. Although the Council’s Development Plan was sent back for review, we’ll be seeing around 600 new houses, as well as a new Ground for Cambridge City F.C. – that’s all going to put a lot of strain on our roads, schools and health services.

At the moment, Sawston is represented by three Conservatives at District level (and two more at County). They all have to follow the Party line when it comes to implementing policy imposed, through choice, by the (now unfettered) Conservative Government. So whether it’s implementing huge cuts to our budgets, changing the rules on provision of “social” affordable housing or imposing a totally unwanted Devolution deal, your current councillors have their hands tied.

Brian is offering an independent, Liberal Democrat alternative to those policies. With a wealth of business management and negotiation experience, Brian can represent Sawston to its maximum advantage. He will act purely as an advocate for our local needs, maximising our proportion of City Deal and New Homes Bonus funds.

As well as the District Council, I’m also standing for the Parish Council at the same time, as I think this is mostly about public service and making a contribution to the local community. Sawston is a good place to live, work and go to school. I want to help that to continue and improve.

Doug Cattermole - HaslingfieldIMG_0015.jpg

I have lived in Haslingfield for nearly 23 years, having moved here from London for a better quality of life. This is very important to me and if elected I will do all I can to represent the views of those in the villages and ensure that we protect our village way of life. I am a strong believer in a good and accessible local education system.

My four children went to the local primary school and then on to Comberton Village College. In 2006 I campaigned against the proposed expansion of the Cemex plant and the increase in the burning of chemical waste. I was a founding member of the Haslingfield Action Group, which was very active at that time. I have experience in business as an HR Director and would now like to put my skills and expertise to use in a worthwhile manner - to use them working for you. Do get in touch if you want to discuss any issue. drcattermole@gmail.com 07702 123511

Peter McDonald - WhittlesfordIMG_4635_(1)_opt.jpg

I am very pleased to be able to put myself forward to represent my fellow residents. Whittlesford and Thriplow need someone who will stand up to the attacks on our public services from this Conservative government.
