Work for Us - Communications and Campaigns Assistant


Working for:  South Cambs Liberal Democrats

Location: Remote but requires regular attendance for meetings in South Cambridgeshire

Salary: £17,576 per annum (pro-rated for part time hours)

Hours: Part-Time, 2.5 days or 20 hours a week - these can be worked flexibly based on role & party requirements


The role:

South Cambs LibDems are looking to recruit a proactive, enthusiastic Communications and Campaigns assistant to support local councillors and the local party. You will be joining our team at a particularly exciting time as we have just won control of the District Council for the next 4 years and will be helping us promote, share and drive our plans forward.

One of the key focuses of this role is to help with the organisation of communications for the council groups and local party.  It will primarily involve getting content from various councillor and local party groups and then distributing it in various ways.  It will also involve helping to enable councillors and ward teams to campaign effectively by providing efficient database support.  Many of the roles below are currently being undertaken by volunteers within the local party so any successful applicant will have support whilst learning.

We are looking for someone with the right attitude with a willingness to learn not necessarily someone with experience in these skill areas though an aptitude for social media would be a great bonus!



Get content from individual councillors on things they have been doing


Ensure local ward pages are updated at least monthly

Send differentiated monthly newsletter emails to supporters 

Create event pages on Website

Send weekly emails to members with details of events

Maintain database of emailable people ensuring reconciliation with our member database

Social Media:

Ensure regular updates on SCLibDem facebook page and twitter

Advertise specific content to further campaign goals

Ensure cross posting between councillor pages and party page.

Assist councillors to set up/increase their own local social media presence


Assist with press releases and work with councillors to ensure coverage of our successes.

Help with creating bank of stock images of councillors for use in press

Help to proactively create press coverage on council priority issues


Help produce 6 campaign literature pieces per year for each ward under consultation with local campaigners


Monitor councillor performance various expectations on campaigning

Ensure all data is entered into member database

Essential Skills:

  • Highly organised
  • Pro-active, self starter with enthusiasm and drive
  • Ability to work on their own tasks with minimal direction
  • Ability to meet deadlines and encourage others to do so.
  • Good communication skills and ability to write in a variety of different styles for different channels
  • Familiarity with communication on social media – primarily Facebook & Twitter
  • An interest in politics

Nice to have/things to learn

  • Experience with desktop publishing applications
  • Experience with website builders (WYSIWYG)
  • Experience with photo editing and video editing software
  • Comfortable with data & analytical tasks
