Northstowe and A14 construction traffic
South Cambridgeshire District Council had requested that the Cambridgeshire Northstowe Transport Working Group (NTWG) be reinstated. Unfortunately, this is currently on hold while some governance issues at the council are sorted out. Kirstin Donaldson, the SCDC Development Officer, is dealing with this.
In the meantime, a meeting has been organised for 7th September to discuss ongoing Northstowe traffic issues. Minutes from this meeting should be available shortly.
The disruption from the frequent closures of the A14 are felt far and wide in South Cambs. Proper diversions are put in place and yet lorries in particular ignore them causing disruption to the villages they choose to travel through. A number of South Cambs District Councillors have been monitoring these unplanned traffic movements to ascertain where they originate from (the A14 or Northstowe) and the villages that are most adversely affected. Cllr Pippa Heylings has been in successful negotiations with Highways England to get them to pay for proper traffic monitoring in order to help manage this unacceptable situation.
We are establishing regular meetings with Longstanton and Oakington Parish Chairs & Clerks so we can update each other on news and issues and, where we think sensible, will be inviting James Stone the Northstowe planning officer to attend.
We are now splitting this report into two sections, the first will include local issues and updates the second, district and region wide issues that may impact our area.
Summer Holiday Food Bank campaign. We need your help!
Food donations are needed to cover School Holidays, as children are off school, some who get free school meals may struggle to get their 3 meals a day. The Trussell Trust, which is the Chairman's Charity for South Cambs District Council, run foodbanks nationwide and are warning that based on past years, demand is likely to outstrip supply.
We are running a local foodbank drive and have placed baskets at:

Northstowe Education Campus
First a presentation on the Northstowe Education Campus which will be on Phase 2 and built by Kier. The details of the school are within the presentation pack which I’m hoping that Jon will be uploading onto the Northstowe Community site shortly but briefly includes a 12 form entry, 1800 pupil school, a 400 place secondary school, a 110 SEN school as well as a 3 form entry Primary School with nursery provision. The sports facilities will include 4 sports hall (that will extend to 8 as the school grows), 2 activity studes, art facilities, gym and a café.
The planning documents have already been submitted and can be found here:
There has been a number of complaints regarding construction vehicles using local roads. There are potentially two reasons for this; HCVs travelling to and from the Northstowe and the A14 improvement works. We met last week with fellow councillor for Willingham and Over, Dawn Percival, to discuss this issue and our response. The Northstowe Construction and Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) illustrates the approved construction routes and is clear that no construction traffic is permitted through the villages.

Notes from Meeting 16th May 2018
These are notes me and Alex took from the meeting - they are not the official minutes!
Thanks to all those who attended, we thought there was a lot of useful information and opportunity for residents to give their views. Thanks go especially to Mike Hill, Director at South Cambs District Council, for his excellent chairing, especially amongst some very heated discussions.
We would like to take the opportunity to introduce ourselves as the new District Councillors for Longstanton, Northstowe and Oakington & Westwick.
We firstly want to formally thank Alex Riley/Simon Edwards/Lynda Harford/Tim Wotherspoon for their long service to the community. They have committed a lot of hard work and energy to the residents of the Parish and it is appropriate that they should be recognised for their contribution. We are fortunate that Alex Riley has kindly offered to give us assistance should we need it and to tap his extensive knowledge of Longstanton.
We would like to express our congratulations to the elected Parish Councillors both existing and new. We wish you every success and look forward to working with you.
This is our Longstanton January update on local issues involving the District and County Councils.
