Coronavirus update

We hope you have been able to stay safe and well during these extremely difficult months. It’s been incredible to see all the volunteer activities springing up to help our local communities through the pandemic.

As district and county councillors, we have been working to assist local residents as much as possible in practical ways, through our village support schemes.

Jose has been at the helm of the free weekly nutritious meals scheme for households with a child on free school meals.

Philippa and Susan have been coordinating the Community Screenbank, appealing for second-hand computers for refurbishment by a Meldreth-based team of volunteer IT and electrical engineers. These are then provided to Melbourn Village College students who would otherwise lack the IT provision required for home learning.

Philippa and Susan are also working towards a community IT scheme that will give computer access to isolated elderly people for social contact and online shopping.  The donations have been overwhelming - from as far away as Histon, Cambridge, Royston, Buntingford and the villages in between – thank you!

And with the support of Cambridgeshire Community Foundation grant funding, and advice from Cambs and Peterborough Foundation Trust, we are working with the Melbourn Community Hub team on a new mental health support service.

If you are a local resident who needs any assistance please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us via the above contact details.

Liberal Democrats run local campaigns across the District. We all support each other to do this, pooling our knowledge and efforts. You can view our campaigns on the campaigns page of this website.
