Some 1,080 residents of Stapleford and Great Shelford were potentially exposed to 'dangerously high levels of toxic chemicals' in June 2021, but were never informed by the water company or reassured that the water reaching their taps was safe.
Cambridge Water said it had removed contaminated water from its supply but admitted it had not informed the community.

This latest revelation comes after a host of other incidents and scandals involving water pollution in the region.
New analysis by the Liberal Democrats has revealed the top ten longest sewage discharges in the region by water companies. The worst offence was in Norfolk and lasted almost 8,000 hours. The third worst sewage dump was in St. Ives, Cambridgeshire and lasted almost 6,000 hours. In the Cam valley, 2019 discharges from sewer overflows included 88 spillages in the River Rhee in Haslingfield, for a total of 1,009 hours.
