Pippa Heylings at the Green Heart Hero Awards, with Geoff Harvey - 27 Feb 2023

Last week, I was honoured to be a finalist in what has been referred to as the Green Oscars: The Green Heart Hero Awards.

This award ceremony which aims to celebrate the ‘unsung heroes helping to create a future where the UK no longer contributes to climate change’, took place at the Houses of Parliament on Monday evening.

It was so moving and inspiring to hear of the work that young people, business and charity leaders, MPs and members of the House of Lords have been doing. I was nominated in the category, ‘Inspiring Locally Elected Leader’ and I felt that I was accepting this on behalf of all of us who have been working hard to create a greener South Cambridgeshire.

There was a special mention of the wonderful work that many of you have been doing at parish and community level with support from our South Cambs Zero Carbon Community Grants which are now in their fourth year and have provided over £400,000 of funding to 61 projects in villages like Hardwick, Harston, Fowlmere, Cottenham and Ickleton where you are planting trees, installing solar panels, protecting green spaces and producing food locally.
